Dog Behaviour Support & Training in South Devon
My name is Sally Lewis. I am a Certified Canine & Animal Behaviourist, as well as a Certified Family Dog Mediator. I use an ethical and reward-based approach based on empathy and mutual trust between yourself and your dog, exploring your dog’s individual needs. I help you to understand their behaviour, factors contributing to behaviour, and how we can support your dog to behave differently. I only use methods led by the latest science, so you can be sure that you are in good hands. I hold multiple qualifications in canine behaviour, including a Level 5 Diploma in Canine Behaviour, as well as qualifications in Canine Communication, Training, Anxiety, Fear, L.E.G.S® Applied Ethology, and Canine Health and Nutrition. I am a proud member of The Association of INTODogs (Behaviourist and Trainer) and The Pet Professional Guild (Canine Training Professional). I am also a published author on the topic of dog behaviour.
I offer support with behavioural needs such as:
- Aggression (to you, to other dogs, animals, or other people)
- Guarding
- Over-excitability
- Fearfulness, anxiety, and stress related behaviour
- Separation related behaviour
- Compulsive behaviours
- Predatory behaviour
- Frustration related behaviours
- Other behaviour that you and your dog may be trying to overcome.
- Supporting your foreign rescue dog
- I also offer appointments to help you understand dog body language, advice on adopting a rescue dog and giving them a positive transition in to your home, and anything else that will help you have a more understanding, enhanced relationship with your dog.
I am covered by the UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter. This means you know you are in the hands of somebody experienced, qualified, and knowledgeable, with the wellbeing of your dog at the centre of my approach. I am fully insured, and canine first aid trained.
I cover Exeter, Exminster, Starcross, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Torbay, Totnes, Paignton, and surrounding areas.
“Sally has really helped us all gain confidence! Our Romanian rescue, Sugar, is coping much better with other dogs, and is enjoying time ‘off lead’ now – something we thought would never happen! A lot of it is down to the calm and assured advice from Sally, which gave us that confidence we needed as rescue dog owners.”
“Sally at know your dog has been absolutely amazing with helping our Labrador Barley. Barley became reactive around dogs during lockdown and we reached out to Sally for help. Sally has been so understanding of our situation and builds individually tailored guidance for us to follow. Sally really takes the time to understand the dogs behaviour and why they are reacting in certain ways. Sally also takes time to understand how I’m feeling too and helps us to be more positive even when we feel we’ve had setbacks. Sally goes above and beyond to help and always makes sure we feel supported. Our dog has made fantastic progress and he is gaining confidence by the day. Sally has given me a better understanding of my dog and I am grateful everyday to see a happier version of Barley.”
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Sally who has helped us to understand our nervous spaniel, Peggy. Sally is warm and friendly, and we instantly took to her. She worked with us slowly and gave us all the guidance we needed to understand where Peggy’s fear of traffic came from, not just to try and ‘fix’ her. Peggy is coming on leaps and bounds with her new training routine and she is the happiest we have ever known her. We cannot recommend Sally enough and look forward to our next session!“
